That second image is the one I always think of for the Annunciation.Interesting: I was not aware that today was the feast of the Annunciation, but last night I couldn't get Bach's "Magnificat" out of my head, even while singing all sorts of other stuff at choir rehearsal. My Catholic subconscious was apparently trying to get my attention… 🙂
I have always liked the third and eighth… Otherwise the one by Fra Angelico has always fed me, before and after having visited the convent where he used to paint in Florence.The exciting thing about the Annunciation is that it happens in everyone's life :-))Thank you for such a stimulating post through images and just a few words.A feat 🙂
In light of recent revelations about the Pope and his major laspses in judgment over priests' pedophile scandals, my fondest wish for you is a purified church, cleansed once and for all of horrible scandals.Keep the faith, Fran. Bigger miracles have happened.
The Tanner one is my favorite, and hangs above my bed. I just love the depiction of Mary in it. There are so many different feelings one can pick up from how he painted her face. I also love that the angel is simply light. Thanks for the other views as well.
